Storage

The rapid advancement of technology can be shockingly fast, it is undeniably true.
Here is some example of my personal experience using storage:

1. In 2001, when there was a new release of Crayon Shin, I could purchase it in bookstore nearby, I'll missed some of the episodes if I had forgotten to buy it; now I can download the full set of Crayon Shin manga in one day using eMule; and I can watch a recently released movie online using PPS.

2. In 2003, the 64MB pendrive costs me around RM250; now I can buy a 16GB pendrive with RM119; while 2TB 3.5" hard disc costs around RM400.

3. In 2001, I am using floopy disc to transfer document files or dos games from one computer to another; In 2004, I'm using CD burner to burn all of my stargate series into CDs (appriximately 11 CDs for one season) as backup; In 2007, I'm using DVD burner to burn all my collections, dramas and ebooks into books of DVDs; and now I'm storing all of them in my 2.5" portable harddisc.

4. Practically...
- obsoleted: floopy disc, CD-R, SDRAM, DDR1
- currently, I still can use DVD-R for data backup but it is still not flexible; it is more convenient to carry a 4GB pendrive around. I'll only burn DVD-R if I need to pass some files to my friend, but it is impractical nowadays as the file size is getting larger. (eg: passing the PC game like Fallout 3 disc image to my friend which size is over 7GB)
- another concern is about the transfer rate, you won't possibly buy a USB1.1 harddisc. That is stupid because when you wanted to copy a 10GB file you'll take around two or three hours of time; while you need only 15 minutes to transfer using USB2.0. (I'm not sure about USB3.0 though)
- flexibility: 3.5" external harddisc requires an external power and hard to be carried around; while 32GB pendrive costs over RM500 (expensive |||); BD-R burner costs over RM1K+ and not flexible at all.
- Disc type storage will be obsolete soon because they are not flexible.

So in conclusion,
current trend: 2.5"/3.5" harddisc, Pendrive, SD card and SSD
